Caitlyn Jenner defended her Big Brother VIP stint as she returned to the campaign trail.

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star announced that she was running for governor of California earlier this year, after intense speculation.

However, there was confusion over her campaign as the 71-year-old recently jetted to Australia to take part in the celebrity version of the series, alongside Married At First Sight’s Jessika Power and Meghan Markle’s brother.

Upon her return to the US, she got right back to work and set up a conference on her intentions in LA on Thursday.

Discussing her brief trip Down Under, Politico reports she said: ‘I’ve never worked so hard for nothing in my life.

‘I had a prior commitment in Australia that was before this campaign even started. And unlike most politicians, I actually honour my contracts.

‘Yeah, I went down there. I stayed in touch with my campaign people. There was only one week when I was out of touch, because I was actually filming the show. And made sure I came back with five weeks to go.’

Caitlyn’s return to the US shortly after jetting to Australia baffled some, as Big Brother VIP is yet to hit screens.

It is unknown whether the Olympian was simply eliminated during the early stages of the competition, or decided to leave on her own accord.

‘I’m a results-based person … I live for results,’ she added to reporters as she emphasised her campaign.

‘Right now, with the homeless issue, it’s all about money and special interests, but it’s not about results.’

Caitlyn did not go into details about her policies, but has previously spoken about plans to suspend restrictions on affordable housing and helping the homeless.

The athlete turned reality star is hoping to replace Democratic incumbent Gavin Newsom in the position, with the election taking place on September 14.

She announced her intention to run earlier this year, stating at the time: ‘California has been my home for nearly 50 years. I came here because I knew that anyone, regardless of their background or station in life, could turn their dreams into reality.

‘But for the past decade, we have seen the glimmer of the Golden State reduced by one-party rule that places politics over progress and special interests over people. Sacramento needs an honest leader with a clear vision.

‘I have been a congressional disruptor throughout my life, from representing the United States and winning a gold medal at the Olympics to helping advance the movement of equality.

‘As Californians, we face a now or never opportunity to fundamentally fix our state before it’s too late.’
