David Walliams has revealed that he and Matt Lucas are planning a new TV project that he hopes to be broadcast ‘in the next year or so’.

The Little Britain creators have been actively discussing reuniting for another series, but David admitted it has been hard to find the time, due to this involvement on Britain’s Got Talent and Matt’s presenting role on Great British Bake Off.

During an appearance on The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan, the 49-year-old explained: ‘Matt is obviously super busy because he’s got the Bake Off and he’s doing some other big, important things.

‘But hopefully in the next year or so we’ll hopefully get something on the screens.’

David had previously revealed that he and Matt, 47, had been working on a new show together back in May, and it sounds like it could be similar to Little Britain, meaning they’ll be playing several different characters again.

Appearing on The Jonathan Ross Show, David said: ‘Me and Matt are meeting up and talking about projects.

‘We took my mum out for dinner. We are discussing projects. We just have an idea of something we want to do.

‘The idea – where we play lots of different characters, which is, you know, something people expect from us.

‘So we’re just going to start writing it, and if we feel it’s good and we want to share it with people, we’ll ask if anyone wants to put it on TV.’

Matt and Lucas are most well known for their starring roles in the sketch comedy series Little Britain, which ran between 2003 and 2007, and the mockumentary Come Fly With Me, which ended in 2011.

Little Britain was a much-loved hit when it first aired, but in recent years has come under scrutiny due to mainstream conversations about systematic racism and white privilege.

Last year the series, along with Come Fly With Me, was removed from a number of streaming services, including BBC iPlayer and BritBox, due to the use of blackface.

Following the backlash, both David and Matt have apologised for their previous works.

David tweeted: ‘Matt & I have both spoken publicly in recent years of our regret that we played characters of other races.

‘One again we want to make it clear that it was wrong & we are very sorry.’

The Lateish Show With Mo Gilligan is broadcast tonight at 10pm on Channel 4.
