The upcoming sequel to Venom has unfortunately been postponed once again as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Titled Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the Marvel movie, which is the follow up-to the 2018 film, was first scheduled to be released to cinemas in October 2020, before being pushed back a year to September 24, 2021.
However, Sony Pictures has now decided to postpone the movie again by a few weeks to October 15, mainly due to a surge in cases of the Delta variant in the United States.
According to Variety, the spread of the variant has caused a ‘decline in consumer confidence in returning to the movies’, with the studio said to be worried about the theatrical release of the film.
A spike in coronavirus cases is also causing hospitals in some major American metropolitan areas to run out of intensive care unit (ICU) rooms.
Despite this, some films have received record-breaking box office numbers in the country after cinemas reopened amid the pandemic, including A Quiet Place 2 and F9.
Tom Hardy is set to reprise his role as Eddie Brock and his symbiote Venom for the forthcoming flick, with Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott, Woody Harrelson and Stephen Graham also starring.

Andy Serkis serves as director, while the screenplay and story is being delivered by both Tom and Kelly Marcel, who also serve as co-producers.
The movie’s official trailer dropped in May, and fans were quick to point out many Marvel Easter Eggs and crossover clues.
One particular scene shows a newspaper, held by Detective Mulligan (Graham), an investigator on the Kasady case.

Eagle-eyed fans not only caught that Mulligan is reading the Daily Bugle, the newspaper which Peter Parker works at as a photographer in Spider-Man, but the most observant among them also caught a partial headline that suggested an Avengers story within its pages.
Many fans have hoped this easter egg confirms a crossover between Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters.
And Tom even recently hinted at a potential future crossover for Venom and Spider-Man.

Asked about whether his character, which first originated as part of the Spider-Man comics, could appear in a future film with the web-slinger, the actor said he ‘would be remiss if I wasn’t trying to steer any kind of connectivity’.
He added to Esquire UK: ‘Should both sides be willing, and it be beneficial to both sides, I don’t see why it couldn’t be. I hope and strongly, with both hands, eagerly, towards that potential, and would do anything to make that happen, within what’s right in business.

‘But it would be foolish not to head towards the Olympic Games if you were running 100 metres, so yeah! I want to play on that field.’
Venom: There Will Be Carnage will be released to cinemas on October 15.
