Vicente Luque Has His Eyes Set on Nate Diaz- States It Has the Potential to Be One of the Best Fights of the Year

Vicente Luque has slowly started to establish himself as the dark horse at 170-pounds. ‘The Silent Assassin’ has been on a tear recently and has secured four wins in his last four outings. To top it off, all four wins have come via stoppage against some of the biggest names at welterweight. Luque is potentially one win away from a title shot and is in the hunt for his next opponent.

In a recent interview with Brett Okamoto of ESPN, Luque shared his thoughts on a potential fight with Nate Diaz. He said, “Between us, I think it is going to be one of the best fights of the year. I think it is going to be an awesome fight. Both of us can take a lot of damage. So it is not a fight that is going to end early. But I am going to look to finish that fight, be it on the stand-up or be it on the ground. That is something really challenging, somebody finish Nate Diaz so that is what I will be looking forward to do in that fight.”

Vicente Luque has his eyes set on stoppage win over Nate Diaz

The Silent Assassin’ has made it no secret that he wants a fight against Nate Diaz. The Stockton native is one of the biggest names in the sport and has a host of fighters ready to get into the cage with him. However, given the recent results, it is unlikely that Luque will fight Diaz.

After his recent win at UFC 265, ‘The Silent Assassin’ has been bumped up to #4 on the UFC’s welterweight rankings. Just one spot behind Leon Edwards. Both men are a win away from a title shot at this point in their career. Therefore, a fight between the two makes a lot of sense with the winner then taking on the winner of Covington vs Usman.
