AJ Allmendinger Reveals ‘What is the Difference Between Indianapolis Circuit and Other Road Courses?’

This weekend, the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity Series will visit the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course. Ahead of the race weekend, Xfinity Series driver AJ Allmendinger spoke about the track. He touched upon all the previous road courses and compared them to the Indianapolis circuit.

He said, “I would say a bit like Road America, a lot of long straightaways and hard brake zones. Overall, trying to use some of the same notes from Road America because we are going into Indy. I liked our setups there, both the Cup and the Xfinity races. That’s probably the most comparable to work on. For the Xfinity race, we have last year’s notes as well, so that will help a lot.”

What lies ahead for AJ Allmendinger?

On an interesting note, Allmendinger was called up in the Truck Series last weekend. This was because Chase Purdy tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. It is also worth mentioning that it was the first time he stepped in a NASCAR truck since 2008.

According to a team statement, “Late yesterday afternoon, GMS Racing driver Chase Purdy tested positive for COVID-19 with mild symptoms. In accordance with NASCAR protocol and the CDC guidelines, Purdy will not compete in Saturday’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Watkins Glen International.

“AJ Allmendinger has agreed to substitute as the replacement driver of the #23 Barna Buggies Chevrolet.”

In the Xfinity Series, Allmendinger currently sits second in the championship. At the moment, there are six races left in the regular season, which AJ will definitely use to try and close the gap to Austin Cindric.

At the same time, Cindric will want to stay ahead and seal the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series regular season championship. Once the playoffs begin, the real battle will kick off, and everyone will be fighting fiercely.
