Camila Giorgi Continues Dream Run, Upsets Coco Gauff To Reach National Bank Open 2021 SFs

Adding to her glorious run in the 2021 season, 17-year-old American Coco Gauff reached the National Bank Open 2021 quarterfinals. However, to reach the next round, she needed to clear the Italian Camila Giorgi test in Montreal. Unfortunately, the teenager could not steered past the challenge, losing the match 6-4, 7-6(2).

On her way to the quarterfinals, Gauff had received two walk-overs. Conversely, her opponent stunned seventh seed Karolina Pliskova to make it into the last eight.

Hence, a fair stage was set for the two to find a place in the Canadian Open (formerly called Rogers Cup) semifinals. Accordingly, both Gauff and Giorgi had put forward their best tennis to win this match.

After losing the first point, Gauff secured a comfortably hold to kickstart the encounter. Similarly, Giorgi also allowed only one point of her serve, alerting the teenager of the challenge ahead of her.

As the nerves settled down after the two games, the 29-year-old Italian began to shake things up. Subsequently, Gauff saw off four break points to keep her service lead going.

However, Giorgi seemed to enjoy her tennis more, obtaining a hold at 40-0. Following that, she got the first break of the match over the American.

Apparently, the only secured break was all the Italian needed to win the opening set. And so she did, leading over Gauff 6-4.

But surprisingly, Gauff could not hold on to her lead as the inspired Giorgi took on the charge again. Soon later, the Italian successfully brought the second set to serve.

In addition, the teenager felt her nerves kicking in at the most crucial part of the match. Consequently, she gave away her service game at 4-4 in the second set, asking the Italian to serve for the match.
