Ed Sheeran may be a multi-millionaire but even he has suffered in the Covid pandemic, admitting his new restaurant got off to a ‘rocky start’.

The Shape Of You singer opened Bertie Blossoms in Notting Hill, west London not long before the global health crisis began in March 2020. He manages the pub with his manager, Stuart Camp, and it’s said to be named after both of their spouses – Ed’s wife Cherry Seaborn and Stuart’s partner Liberty Shaw.

Despite Ed’s superstar status, the business hasn’t had an easy launch as it was forced to close just months after opening.

Speaking to Jessie Ware on her popular Table Manners podcast, the musician explained: ‘It’s had a rocky start as it opened two months before the pandemic

‘If you’re looking to make a small fortune in the food industry you should start with a large fortune.

‘It’s one of these things where, unless you’re Jamie Oliver or Gordon Ramsay and you have loads of restaurants, it’s very difficult.’

Ed, 30, said the pub offers ‘really good beers’ and things he ‘would want in the bar’. The menu includes beer battered fish and chips, rib eye steak and an array of small plates, as well as, of course, a selection of beer, wine and cocktails.

The Thinking Out Loud singer also opened up about his decision to move from London to his sprawling estate in Suffolk.

‘I love London but when I lived there full-time I felt trapped and didn’t go out a lot. I was thinking people cared more than they did,’ he said.

‘Now I am living in Suffolk I’ll dip into London for a night and enjoy the experiences. I’m a Suffolk boy and this is where I feel most comfortable.

‘I can go into a pub and see people and go, “OK”, but in London it’s more full-on. And there are a lot more restaurants to compete with, too.’

Ed and wife Cherry tied the knot secretly in January 2019 and welcomed their first child, daughter Lyra, in August 2020.

Elsewhere on the podcast, the singer revealed he and Cherry had hardly any wedding guests, keeping it a low-key affair.
