“They Love Throwing My Name Around”: Terence Crawford Reacts to Vergil Ortiz Jr.’s Callout

WBO champion Terence Crawford is quite the benchmark at 147 lbs and all the surging stars want to have a scrap against him. Undefeated elite Vergil Ortiz Jr. is no different. After securing his 18th KO win against ‘Mean Machine’, Ortiz Jr., who called out ‘Bud’ in the post-fight chat, thrilled several fans.

The potential fight can be massive, bringing a veteran and a youngster against each other. Meanwhile, both the undefeated fighters can be each other’s gateway to the bigger goals. However, Terence Crawford didn’t openly accept the challenge.

Instead, he passed on a cheeky comment and labeled his superiority in the welterweight division. Nevertheless, ‘Bud’ also congratulated WBO International titlist Vergil Ortiz Jr. for his recent win. Crawford took to Twitter and wrote, “They love throwing my name around. I love y’all too. Congratulations on the win (Vergil Ortiz Jr).”

That said, Ortiz Jr. vs Crawford may not happen anytime soon. Boasting a 37-0 record and the WBO world title, Terence Crawford will defend his belt and streak against former champion Shawn Porter next. Besides, several fantasy fights against Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence Jr. have already been fuming around Crawford.

Also, as the American star has hinted at retirement, we might be in the last phase of Terence Crawford’s professional boxing career. While a few career-defining matchups can intrigue ‘Bud’ to continue, Vergil Ortiz Jr. may not have the resume to urge Crawford to face him. Point to be noted, the chances are bleak and not invalid.

Terence Crawford vs Vergil Ortiz Jr.- How can it happen?

Following a successful WBO International title win, Ortiz Jr., along with several other elites, is now a top-tier contender in the welterweight division. Also, as the WBO International strap doest mandate him to challenge for Crawford’s belt, he might need a win or two to secure the fight.

Meanwhile, a successful defense against Porter can either be the end of Crawford’s career or leave him at a stage where only a unification battle makes sense.

Hence, it’s hard to predict whether Ortiz Jr and Crawford will ever lock horns. But if it happens, the fight will be one of the biggest in the recent memory of the sport.
