Vergil Ortiz Jr. Breaks Down “Mean Machine” Egidijus Kavaliauskas in Round 8

The headlining event between Vergil Ortiz Jr. and Egidijus Kavaliauskas stayed true to the buzz created around it. Both the pugilists moved fiercely with their shots, thus keeping each other on their toes. Both Ortiz Jr. and Kavaliauskas put their skill sets of life in this fight, yet in the end, it was the young gun who triumphed over his veteran adversary via a T/KO in round 8.

As the fight began, Ortiz Jr. put his defensive side to the play and kept his jabs to the work. He tried cutting the distance simultaneously and moved forward with his light yet quick jabs.

The veteran, on the other hand, tried landing his right hands from the initial gong itself. But he couldn’t land his best hit. But in round 2, ‘Mean Machine’ shook everyone from the core when he dropped the 23-year-old with his slick combination.

In round 3, Ortiz Jr. turned the tables by putting his contemporary to the canvas with his powerful jab. The 23-year-old, being a favorite in this fight, only moved ahead with his shots, thus keeping his aggressive game-plan to the play.

As the fight moved ahead, Ortiz Jr. came out with more weapons of his artillery. He collected himself after that knockdown and showed a champion mindset. But, Kavaliauskas too had a stern game plan, and he certainly showed what he’s made of.

The two men continued their trade of punches and didn’t let their spirits soar. Ortiz Jr. in fact got better in the later rounds and got comfortable.

In round 8, Ortiz Jr. dropped ‘Mean Machine’ four times, and eventually, the referee stopped the bout to save the latter from further damage.

With that win, the Texas native claimed his 18th consecutive T/KO win. And he also defended his WBO international welterweight title with that. He is by far the most promising prodigy who’s looking to go big with time.
