Marcus Ericsson Embraces the ‘Airicsson’ Memes After Airborne NASCAR Incident at IMS

Former Formula 1 driver, Marcus Ericsson, who currently takes part in IndyCar, was involved in a crazy collision at Music City Grand Prix in Nashville.

The Swedish driver ran into Sebastien Bourdais’s car on lap five. As a result, Ericsson was launched about 6 feet into the air, enduring massive damages to his Chip Ganassi car. And despite suffering broken front wing, suspension damages, and a ten-second stop and go penalty, Marcus Ericsson went on to secure his second win of the campaign.

Meanwhile, a similar incident occurred in NASCAR when Corey LaJoie got airborne after hitting the curb at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Taking it to Twitter, Marcus Ericsson hilariously tweet about the LaJoie incident. The Swedish driver wrote: “He’s gonna win. You watch.”

Marcus Ericsson was startled how he survived the collision and ended up winning the race

The former Alfa Romeo driver, Marcus Ericsson, revealed he was left baffled after suffering massive damage to his car and ended up securing his second win in the IndyCar 2021 campaign.

As quoted by Motorsport, when asked about his feelings after the race, Marcus Ericsson replied: “I’m just trying to figure out how I ended up winning the race after being up, flying, and seeing the sky on Lap 5 and thinking my race was over. I can’t believe it! I got good air-time.”

“But then with the race, as it was with all the incidents, there was going to be another red flag–it was not going to be an easy finish. Obviously, I was very happy to finish it off and have another win…”

“I’m still trying to figure out how I got here, but the bottom line was that we were really fast. We were fast when we got some free air. We were fast getting by people and doing the fuel numbers needed,” added the Swedish racing driver.
