Disney has revealed the gritty (and bloody) first trailer for its adaptation of Y: The Last Man.
Diane Lane leads the emsemble cast of the sci-fi drama based on the DC Comics series of the same name by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra.
Set in a post-apocalyptic world, a cataclysmic event destroys every mammal with a Y chromosome except for one man and his pet monkey.
The series will follow the survivors as they try to make sense of what happened and build something better out of what they lost.
From the trailer this is not going to be your usual Disney fare – the fact it will be streaming on Star through Disney+ also attests to that – as we get a brief look at the harrowing moment the disturbing event starts wiping people out.
There seems to be plenty of action thrown in too, with star Ashley Romans kicking some serious tail as Agent 355.

Under showrunner Eliza Clark, all episodes of the season will be directed by women while Disney is also keen to point out that the production has ‘a significant number’ of female department heads including production designer, casting director and costume designer.
What is the Y: The Last Man release date?
The series starts streaming on Star through Disney+ on September 22, kicking off with a three episode premiere.
Who is in the Y: The Last Man cast?
Along with Romans, Lane stars as Congresswoman Jennifer Brown, with Ben Schnetzer as Yorick, the titular last man.
Olivia Thirlby, Amber Tamblyn, Diana Bang, Juliana Canfield, Elliot Fletcher and Marin Ireland are also in the cast.

What are the Y: The Last Man comic books about?
The comic book series ran for 60 issues starting in 2002 through to 2008.
It centres on Yorick Brown, the only male human who survived the mysterious event that killed every mammal with a Y chromosome, and his monkey Ampersand.
It was nominated for the first Hugo Award for best graphic story for volume 10, and picked up three Eisner Awards.
Y: The Last Man starts September 22 on Disney Plus.
