Changing Rooms star Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen has revealed that the disaster of the broken teapots will not be forgotten in the ‘extraordinary’ new reboot.
This week, DIY home makeover show Changing Rooms is returning after 17 years, finding a new home on Channel 4 as Laurence is joined by newcomers Anna Richardson, designers Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead and carpenter Tibby Singh.
While fans can’t wait to see what the team has in store in the new episodes, the return of the show has sparked memories of classic Changing Rooms moments of old, including the teapot catastrophe.
As former avid viewers of the programme will be able to remember, interior designer Linda Barker found herself in hot water when a hanging shelving unit that she made to hold antique teapots collapsed, destroying the valuable collection and devastating the owners.
On Tuesday’s edition of This Morning, Laurence joined Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford in the studio to discuss the revival, touching upon the unforgettable teapot moment.
After Ruth referenced the mishaps that can occur on the series, Laurence replied: ‘Funnily enough, tomorrow night I take a moment to try and lay the ghost of the teapots. So you know, just to see whether we can move on.’

As Eamonn guffawed, Laurence continued, saying that ‘this is the joy of the show’.
‘For the last 25 years I’ve been doing this all over the world, and it’s always so manicured and so choreographed and you float down and everything goes right,’ he said.
‘Changing Rooms is so rock and roll, it’s so naughty, it’s so dirty. Actually, if the paint doesn’t dry or the teapots break, that’s at the centre of the show.’
In September 2020, Clodagh, whose teapot collection was the one that was shattered, told the Guardian that she still had ill-feelings towards Linda.
‘I still don’t feel very good about her,’ Clodagh said of the interior designer.
‘On the very rare occasions she’s on television now, when I do see her, she’s still very bouncy, and I just don’t think she earned the bounce.’

Laurence recently shared that he would love for there to be a Changing Rooms and Love Island crossover, telling Metro.co.uk and other media: ‘I think it’d be highly amusing if we did some kind of really quite weird fusion with Love Island.
‘So you know, get all those very, very underemployed budgie-smugger wearing people to maybe decorate a couple of holiday flats.’
Changing Rooms with Dulux begins on Wednesday August 18 at 8pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
