‘I Got a Taste of How Dirty That Stuff Is’- Tito Ortiz States ‘Character Assassination’ Forced Him to End His Political Career
Former UFC champion Tito Ortiz has always been a polarizing figure. During his time with the UFC, Ortiz famously had a feud with Dana White that lasted during the entirety of his stay with the company. After his fighting career, ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ ventured into the world of politics. Unfortunately for him, the move did not play out as he would have expected.
Ortiz was elected the mayor of his hometown in December 2020. After six months in office, Ortiz stepped put in his resignation stating that he was a victim of “character assassination”. The former UFC champion was elected as the mayor of Huntington Beach after receiving over 42,000 votes. The most in the history of the Huntington Beach City Council.
The former UFC champion shed light on his political career and why that was firmly in the rear-view mirror now. He said, “That part of my life ended. I got a taste of how dirty that stuff is and I just tried to help my city…… That’s all I tried to do was help here in Huntington Beach and I couldn’t let it happen. I got attacked non-stop, every single week, it was either in the news or the newspaper. When they started attacking my character, assassinating my character, that’s when I knew I needed to walk away.”
Ortiz continued, “It wasn’t worth my time and I apologize for all the people who did vote for me….. But once again, I’m an honest man trying to do an honest job and politics, you can’t be an honest man and do those things. Cause when you keep your word, other people don’t like that”(h/t mmafighting.com)

Tito Ortiz to take on Anderson Silva next month
After a short stint as a politician, Ortiz is back to doing what he does best, fighting. The former UFC champion will make his boxing debut against Anderson Silva. The two men will fight on the undercard of Vitor Belfort vs Oscar De La Hoya. The event will take place on September 11th under the Triller banner.
This will be Silva’s second professional boxing bout. For ‘The Huntington Beach Bad Boy’ this will be his maiden outing in the squared circle. It will be interesting to see how the two men fare in a new sport of their liking.
