The full list of nominations for the National Television Awards 2021 have been revealed, with shows including Line of Duty, It’s A Sin and Piers Morgan receiving nods.

This year’s NTAs is due to take place at London’s O2 arena this September, with comedian Joel Dommett taking on hosting duties for the very first time following David Walliams in 2020.

The main aspect of the NTAs that sets it apart from other awards ceremonies is the fact that every single category is voted on by the public, making the winners undoubtedly feel celebrated by viewers at home.

This year’s ceremony features a brand new category, Authored Documentary, for which Kate Garraway’s film Finding Derek is nominated alongside Katie Price: Harvey and Me, Marcus Rashford: Feeding Britain’s Children, Rob Burrow: My Year With MND and Roman Kemp: Our Silent Emergency.

Kate recently expressed her hope that her husband Derek will be able to join her at the ceremony, stating: ‘I was just thinking, wouldn’t it be wonderful if Derek was well enough to come?’

Line of Duty has picked up several nominations at the event, including a nod for Returning Drama and nominations for the stars of AC-12 Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar, who are going up against each other in the Drama Performance category.

It’s A Sin is up for New Drama against Normal People, Bridgerton and Des, while Olly Alexander, who played Ritchie Tozer in the Russell T Davies series, is up for Drama Performance.

In a curious turn of events, Piers – who quit Good Morning Britain earlier this year after making heavily criticised comments about Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey – has been nominated for the TV Presenter accolade, going up against Alison Hammond, Ant and Dec, Bradley Walsh and Holly Willoughby.

Ant and Dec have won the award for several years running, so it could come as a shock if Piers or any of the other nominees receive the recognition.

The Crown has been nominated for Returning Drama, while Ricky Gervais’ After Life, Friday Night Dinner, Sex Education and The Vicar of Dibley are up for the Comedy award.

Love Island, which is airing for one more week, is up for Challenge Show, while David Tennant is nominated for his unnerving performance as Dennis Nilsen in Des.
