Piers Morgan makes thinly-veiled swipe at Meghan Markle as he reacts to NTAs nomination

We told you we were waiting for Piers Morgan’s sassy response to his National Television Awards nomination, and it turns out he couldn’t help himself with yet another jab at Meghan Markle.
It was announced the former Good Morning Britain host has been nominated for the TV presenter prize, which will see him compete against Ant and Dec, Bradley Walsh and This Morning stars Holly Willoughby and Alison Hammond for the gong.
While we were taking bets on who he would drag into his inevitable gloating post – we really thought BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker was in with a shot – he’s instead dropped the Duchess of Sussex in it. Again.
Should you have blanked the past few months, Piers’ shortlisting comes after the presenter left the ITV flagship show in March following incendiary comments about Meghan in which he doubted her revelation that she considered suicide at the height of racist abuse while living in the UK. Such comments prompted more than 54,000 Ofcom complaints, and, after he refused to apologise, Piers resigned from the programme.
Noticing the apparent irony in finally being nominated for the TV presenter gig after leaving GMB, Piers tweeted today: ‘Most amused to finally be nominated for TV Presenter of the Year at the @OfficialNTAs.’
He went on: ‘Though could be a tad #awks for ITV if I win for my work on @GMB. Might have to pull a Brando and send Princess Pinocchio along to receive it on my behalf….’
Piers – who also hosts Piers Morgan’s Life Stories – previously branded Meghan ‘Princess Pinocchio’ and has doubled down on not believing the royal since his GMB exit.
It seems the journalist was also referring to Marlon Brando’s 1973 Academy Awards win, in which he declined the best actor award – which he won for The Godfather – sending Native American actress Sacheen Littlefeather on stage in his place, who stated the actor ‘very regretfully’ would not accept the award in protest against Hollywood’s portrayal of Native Americans in film.

Speaking about Piers’ nomination earlier this morning, his former GMB colleagues had a giggle as guest Kevin Maguire said: ‘It rings a bell, the name. Who is that?’
‘Is that some guy who used to work here?’ added fellow guest Amanda Platell, much to the delight of Kate Garraway and Charlotte Hawkins who were consumed with laughter.
‘I remember when Good Morning Britain was nominated, it must have been two years ago, and he didn’t win and he was very cross,’ Kate said. ‘So we’ll see if he comes this time and see if he wins.’

‘He’s permanently cross,’ Kevin joked, causing an eruption of giggles.
Dr Hilary Jones added: ‘Ironic if we wins it when he’s off-air!’
