WWE star Seth Rollins reflects on Bray Wyatt release and creativity: ‘God I miss him’

WWE superstar Seth Rollins has praised Bray Wyatt for his creativity and suggested he wishes he was still with the company.

The former world champion was shockingly released late last month with fans and fellow performers baffled by the decision, and Rollins – who worked with Bray over the years, including when The Shield feuded with the Wyatt Family and during his own rivalry with The Fiend – has weighed in on the star and his impact on him personally as a performer.

He exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘Bray Wyatt – God, I miss him. But I wouldn’t say that I drew much inspiration from him. He was way out there with the stuff he wanted to do character-wise – and it worked for him.

‘For me, not so much. That’s not really where I sit when it comes to characters in wrestling. but it worked well for him.’

Seth’s own character arc has felt so natural over the past nine years since The Shield’s legendary debut, with his on-screen persona now combining elements of past iterations.

Over the past couple of years, it’s been defined by his run as the Messiah and later the sometimes-deluded but always sinister Drip King.

‘It’s a fun thing. It’s cool, it’s definitely been really interesting,’ Seth – who will face Edge in a dream match at SummerSlam on Saturday night – said. ‘The character’s in a weird place right now. I definitely take inspiration anywhere I can get it.

‘So, when you look at the arc of my career, you’ll be able to see the whole picture I suppose. You mentioned that it’s really naturally evolved over the past couple of years – I would say even longer than that, to be fair.’

When we suggested Seth Rollins on camera feels like a comic book villain in a way, the man himself seemed surprised but flattered by the comparison.

‘I mean, I’m a bit over the top but I don’t know that I consider myself a comic book character,’ he admitted. ‘So that’s pretty cool!’

One fellow wrestler Rollins has taken a lot of inspiration from is Triple H, a man who he’s worked with plenty of times over the years – whether it was on opposite sides of the Shield and Evolution battle, their time together in the Authority, or facing each other at WrestleMania 33.

‘Triple H is definitely someone that my character draws inspiration from. Obviously he played a major role in the beginnings of my character and what it’s become,’ Seth noted.

‘But if you look at his career, his character always did the same thing, it evolved very naturally over the years. He was able to teeter back and forth to both ends of the spectrum.’

*WWE SummerSlam airs Saturday (August 21) at 1am on the WWE Network when Seth Rollins faces Edge.
