Allyson Felix To Compete With Sha’Carri Richardson In Epic 200m Showdown

The American sprinter, Sha’Carri Richardson will be competing against the Olympic champion, Allyson Felix at Prefontaine Classic.

At the Tokyo Olympics, Richardson failed to pass the dope test due to her consumption of marijuana. Consequently, she was banned from competing there. However, Richardson will be competing at the Prefontaine Classic. This could prove to be a golden opportunity for her to redeem herself.

Competiton for Richardson at Prefontaine Classic

This competition will not be easy for Richardson since she will be running against the Olympic Champion, Allyson Felix. Felix has had a record-breaking start to her career. By winning gold in the 4x4oo relay and a bronze in 400 meters, she has indeed made her nation proud. The last time she won a medal in 200 meters was in London Olympics, 2012. However, she looks confident to compete in the upcoming Prefontaine Classic.

According to a report by Wall Street Journal, Richardson is expected to participate in both the sprinting events- 100 and 200 meters. Also, she is one of the confirmed athletes for the Prefontaine Classic at the University of Oregon.

Will Richardson be able to prove herself at Prefontaine Classic?

Apart from competition against the Olympian, Allyson Felix, Richardson will go up against a few more renowned athletes. The Jamaican 100-meter record holder and gold medallist in 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay, Elaine Thompson-Herah will be a challenging opponent. Furthermore, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, the other two Jamaican are also going to give a tough fight to Richardson.

In addition to these sprinters, Teahna Daniel will also be joining the competition. Daniel, finished 7th in Tokyo and has had a decent track record in the past few years to match the potential of the rest of the others.

Considering the fact that Richardson performed incredibly during her Olympic trials, she stands a fair chance to fin this tournament. Interestingly, she posted a time of 10.64 in the Olympic Trials semifinals. This was only .03 more than what Thompson-Herah’s recorded at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. With a timing of 10.61, Thomson was able to create a new Olympic record. Thus, Richardson does have a chance to prove herself against the fellow athlete and start afresh after the doping mishap.
