Coco Gauff highlighted today’s matches in the women’s singles category at the Cincinnati Open 2021. The 17-year-old took on World No. 73 Hsieh Su-wei in the first round of the last tournament before the US Open.
Despite a whopping age difference of 18 years between both players, Gauff put on an exhibition in the hard courts of Cincinnati. After several delays, the American teenager eased her way to the second round with the scoreline reading 6-1 6-2.
Coco Gauff vs Hsieh Su-wei: Set 1
Gauff began the match by serving the first game of the set. Since then, the World No. 24 dominated Su-wei, breaking her serve right after holding her own service game to go 2-0 up. Gauff continued to dominate her Taiwanese opponent, breaking her serve once again to go 4-0 up.
After she went up 5-0, Su-wei served the sixth game of the set looking to avoid getting bageled by Gauff. Although she led the game 30-15, the heavens opened up once again in Cincinnati to suspend the match.

Just like the previous set, Gauff served the first game of the set. She continued to build on the momentum of the first set. With this result, Gauff set up a mouth-watering second round clash against World No. 2 Naomi Osaka. They faced each other on two different occasions, at the 2020 Australian Open and the 2019 US Open.
