Changing Rooms: Disaster strikes in first episode of reboot as designers make teapot-esque mishap

The first episode of the reboot of Changing Rooms has already spelled disaster, as a contraction resembling the one that caused the teapot catastrophe fails miserably.
After 17 years, fans of the original series of Changing Rooms can’t wait for the series to return, having found a new home on Channel 4.
Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen is the only original cast member who’s returned to the show, where he’s been joined by new presenter Anna Richardson, designers Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead and carpenter Tibby Singh.
In the first episode, Jordan and Russell set about putting up a handmade chain above a bed, hanging it from two lights on either side.
However, when they and the participants of the show hang it up, it quickly breaks apart and falls on the floor, spelling mayhem.
That doesn’t put them off, as they then try to put up the chain for a second time, to no avail.

The scene will undoubtedly bring memories rushing back from a classic Changing Rooms episode of old, when Linda Barker created a hanging shelf unit to hold an antique collection of teapots.
As viewers will be able to remember vividly, the entire collection fell from the shelves, smashing into pieces.
The falling decor isn’t the only spot of trouble the stars of Changing Rooms are going to find themselves in during the first episode.

When master interior design expert Laurence presents a selection of colours to a couple of participants that he plans on using to decorate the room, they don’t look too pleased.
Despite saying that they trust Laurence totally, when he opens the first can to reveal a salmon shade of paint, they both let out disappointed groans.
They are far more excited about the next two colours that Laurence presents to them, peacock shades of blue and green.

‘There’s a big thing happening in design at the moment called maximalism. So it’s anti-minimalism,’ Laurence explains.
‘It’s about being really crazy and party-orientated, quite feminine.’ Let’s see where this goes!
Changing Rooms with Dulux begins tonight at 8pm on Channel 4 and All 4.
