Facebook are working hard to get rid of cruel comments which were said to have been left on Lizzo’s page and Instagram posts.

The singer and rapper had previously taken to Instagram Live last Sunday, revealing she had been subjected to ‘fatphobic and racist’ abuse from people over her latest single Rumors with Cardi B.

Insiders for Facebook first claimed to TMZ that the company removed ‘a number of comments’ left on Lizzo’s account as well as on posts she shared on Instagram, which it also owns.

A Facebook spokesperson confirmed to Metro.co.uk that it has removed several comments that break the rules against hate speech and harassment. It will continue to review reports and take action.

Lizzo, real name Melissa Jefferson, broke down in tears over the vile comments during her livestream, as she said: ‘There are people that have something mean to say about you and for the most part it doesn’t hurt my feelings, I don’t care.

‘I just think when I’m working this hard, my tolerance gets lower. My patience is lower, I’m more sensitive and it gets to me.

‘I’m seeing negativity directed towards me in the weirdest way. People say s*** about me that just doesn’t even make sense.

‘It’s fatphobic, it’s racist and it’s hurtful. If you don’t like my music, cool, if you don’t like Rumors it’s all cool, but a lot of people don’t like because of the way I look and I’m like… Anyway I’m just having one of those days where I don’t have no time. I think I’m just overwhelmed.’

The 33-year-old claimed that those who left the mean comments would do this ‘to Black women over and over and over again, especially us big Black girls’, as she told them to ‘suck my p***y from behind’.

A number of celebrities came to Lizzo’s defence, including collaborator Cardi B, as well as Jameela Jamil, Chloe Bailey and Missy Elliott, who previously teamed up with the musician for the song Tempo.

Lizzo later added on Twitter: ‘Loving yourself in a world that don’t love u back takes an incredible amount of self awareness & a bulls*** detector that can see through a** backwards societal standards…

‘If u managed to love yourself today I’m proud of u. If u haven’t, I’m still proud of u. This s***’s hard.’

Lizzo has since spoken out further about the treatment of Black women in the music industry, as she said she thinks she ‘could have been erased’ if it wasn’t for social media.
