Grantchester sets return date for season 6 and it’s only weeks away

It’s finally confirmed when the next series of Grantchester will arrive on our screens and it so happens to be just around the corner.

ITV has announced that season six of the detective drama will be back on September 3. In the US, it will premiere on PBS shortly after on October 3.

This season will pack a total of eight episodes – that’s two more than the usual six episodes every previous series had.

So with lots more Grantchester to come, it’s time to start getting excited.

Tom Brittney will of course return as Reverend William Davenport, the vicar of the titular village after taking over from James Norton’s Reverend Sidney Chambers in series four.

Robson Green will also reprise his role as DI Geordie Keating with Kacey Ainsworth coming back to play his wife Cathy.

When we last saw them, Will was still relishing his role as the vicar of this small parish, bringing all his passion to it and not being scared to rock the boat and challenge conversions to help people.

In the upcoming season, we can be sure that Geordie will keep enlisting his friend’s help to solve crimes and mysteries as trouble is brewing around every corner in Grantchester.

Al Weaver’s character Leonard Finch, a gay Anglican curate, and Tessa Peake-Jones’s devoutly religious housekeeper of the vicarage, Mrs Chapman will also be sure to bring forth storylines that challenge the 1958 worldviews.

Meanwhile, at the end of July, it was confirmed that Grantchester would be returning for a seventh season, which will also mark Brittney’s directorial debut as he will be stepping behind the camera to direct an episode.

Speaking about this move, he said: ‘I’m thrilled to be back on set with my Grantchester family and back in our happy place. I’m also absolutely over the moon to be given the opportunity to direct an episode this series.

‘It’s been a life ambition of mine and I can’t wait for the audience to see it (and also I can finally order Robson about!).’

Robson also added: ‘Great to be back in the world we all refer to as our “HAPPY PLACE.”

‘This new series is the best yet and is testament to the outstanding creative team that make this extraordinary, likeable, charming and entertaining tale what it is… class!’
