Love Island’s Dom Lever shares fear ‘anticlimactic’ show will be AXED if next series isn’t a hit

FORMER Love Island star Dom Lever fears the show could be axed if the next series isn’t a huge hit.

The 30-year-old hunk slammed this year’s show for being ‘hit and miss’ and an ‘anti-climax’.

Dom, who married fellow contestant Jess Shears after meeting on the third series, said: “I have watched every series religiously apart from this year which has been hit or miss.

“I feel like they’ve had 18-months to nail it and the anticipation has been so high but it has been a bit of an anti-climax.”

This year’s seventh series got off to a slow start thanks to a lukewarm response from fans.

Viewing figures have been steadily rising since Casa Amor but Dom suggested it could be too little too late.

He said: “I think next year will be the crucial year. I think our year was the year it blew up but since then every year since has gone down a little bit.

“I would love to see it continue but all good shows come to an end like Big Brother. This year could be the straw that broke the camel’s back or they could nail it and think they f**ked it up last year so we better make it incredible.”

This year’s series has been branded the most diverse in Love Island history, but Dom believes the hit ITV2 show needs an even bigger revamp.

Chatting to promote celeb boxing event Box Star, Dom said: “I find the whole diversity thing weird. They are saying it is the most diverse ever but diversity is more than just skin colour.

“Still to this day Jess has been the biggest girl that has ever been on the show and she’s only a size 10.

“I think next time they should do it with bisexual and pansexual people. That would be amazing. Imagine watching it. It would create a new dynamic to the show.”

Dom met Jess on the first week of Love Island in 2017, they got engaged just three-months after leaving the villa and married the following year.

I feel like they’ve had 18-months to nail it and the anticipation has been so high but it has been a bit of an anti-climax.”

They also have a one-year-old baby son together.

Despite criticising this year’s show Dom said: “The show does work. For all the shit it gets it does need some credit. It has had multiple babies and multiple marriages.”

Backing Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromolaran to win he added: “I think Chloe and Toby seem the most legit. They got together, broke up, got with other people, got back together. I think they should win. They seem the most real.”

Dom is fighting fellow Love Island star Alex Beattie at celebrity boxing event Box Star.

He said: “I got kicked off Love Island due to Alex coming in but there’s no beef. We’ll be trying to knock each other’s heads off in the ring but I’m sure we’ll have a drink together afterwards.”

Other stars taking part at the Manchester Arena event on October 7 include Tom Zanetti, Jake Quickenden, Marcel Somerville and Luke Mabbott.
