Octavia Spencer has opened up about the ‘fiery’ relationship she and Kate Hudson share in season 2 of Truth Be Told, teasing the exciting ‘evolution’ of her character.
For people who have followed Octavia and Kate’s varied careers, they will undoubtedly be intrigued to see how the two stars bounce off one another in the new season of the Apple TV Plus series.
Octavia returns as investigative reporter turned true crime podcaster Poppy Parnell, having previously explored the case of convicted murderer Warren Cave (Aaron Paul) in season one.
In the new episodes, Poppy is reunited with her childhood friend Micah Keith (Kate), a media mogul with whom she shares a somewhat up-and-down connection, Octavia told Metro.co.uk.
The Academy Award winner explained that as a true crime fan herself, she’s looking forward to watching the drama unfold as Poppy becomes embroiled in a deeply disturbing case involving her friend, Micah.
‘There’s something wonderful about getting to be a part of this show that I find exciting and accessible. I want people to take that ride with us and I want to take the ride in real time with the audience,’ she said.

‘So what I will tell you about the evolution of [Poppy and Micah’s] relationship is that it is very real and very fiery and very fun, exciting, and you will not know what’s happening from moment to moment, and that’s exciting to me.’
While at times Poppy and Micah might find their relationship tested in the series, in real life, Octavia and Kate ‘hit it off immediately’, the Hidden Figures star said.
Kate added to Metro.co.uk that she felt that she and Octavia had an ‘immediate connection’
‘It felt like we’d known each other – this sounds exaggerated – our whole lives,’ she said, which is why ‘creating the connection came really easy’ to them.
Having first played Poppy in 2019, Octavia explained that the character ‘has some changes that she has to endure’, as just like in ‘regular life, she is ever evolving’.

‘That’s what I find exciting about playing Poppy – you just don’t know what’s around the bend,’ she said.
‘The fact we get to see some of her childhood through Micah’s eyes, through other people’s perspectives besides her family – well Micah is family – but sisters and fathers and everyone, it’s just been fun and I think her evolution by the end of this season… that’s all I can say, whew!’
Truth Be Told launches on Friday August 20 on Apple TV Plus, with new episodes released weekly.
