WATCH: Novak Djokovic Gears Up for US Open 2021 in Good Friend Janko Tipsarevic’s Academy

There are just a few days left before the season’s final Grand Slam event begins and Novak Djokovic is ready for it. The World No. 1 has been practicing in Portonovi, Montenegro and will head to New York soon for the US Open.

Djokovic missed out on a medal at the Tokyo Olympic Games and finished fourth. A gut-wrenching loss in the semifinals and a dismal performance in the bronze medal match resulted in an unfortunate end to his Olympics campaign. He will now be eager to finish the year with the Calendar Slam.

Novak Djokovic looks ready for New York

The World No. 1 is on the verge of completing a Calendar Slam in 2021. The year started with a Grand Slam win for the Serb in Australia and he will want to end it on his terms as well. Djokovic is also on the verge of creating another record. After 20 Grand Slam titles, he will be looking for number 21 to surpass Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal.

After the Olympic, Djokovic took a break and decided to focus on preparing for the US Open. He is practicing in Portonovi and looks in great shape. A series of forehand drives followed by a juicy drop at the net shows that Djokovic is back in his rhythm. He was practicing at the Janko Tipsarevic academy. Janko is a former Serbian tennis player.

Djokovic withdrew from the Cincinnati Open and the National Bank Open in order to reduce the risk of injury.

Djokovic’s US Open record

The Serbian national has a decent record at the US Open. He has won three titles at the hardcourt competition, most recently winning at it in 2018. Besides, he beat Juan Martin del Potro in the finals to clinch his third title and won 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 and avenged his 2016 Rio Olympics loss.

Moreover, Djokovic looks really strong this year to complete his fourth Grand Slam title of 2021 after a dominating performance this year. He has lost more finals in New York than he has won – five in total. His first final was in 2007 when he was fairly young and he has come a long way from there. He has played in eight finals and won three and lost five.

He will be hungrier than ever to get the Calendar Slam and become the greatest player of all time.
