WWE NXT: Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis are engaged after she pops the question

What a moment! (Picture: WWE)

Indi Hartwell and Dexter Lumis took their on-screen romance to the next level on NXT this week as they got engaged.

The WWE superstars have been embroiled in a brilliant will they, won’t they storyline for months now as the silent Tortured Artist tried to capture her attention.

He lost a Love Her Or Lose Her match to Johnny Gargano a couple of weeks ago which should have put an end to their relationship, but Indi ended up kissing him and the pair had a hilarious date the next week.

Now, things have been dialled up a notch as they teamed together in the ring for the first time and took on the pairing of Robert Stone and Jessi Kamea in a comedy match giving InDex a fairly easy win.

After the bell, Hall of Famer and commentator Beth Phoenix gave Indi a ring before the wrestler got down on one knee to the roar of the crowd inside the Capitol Wrestling Center.

Sticking perfectly to his character, Dexter simply nodded – again to a great reaction from the live audience.

After the show, Indi replied to current NXT Women’s Tag Team Champion Io Shirai – who said all she needed was the title – and quipped: ‘Wait till you find love io (sic)’

After the big moment, Johnny – the leader of The Way with his real-life wife Candice LeRae – was outraged at his wrestling ‘daughter’ taking such a bold step in a relationship he doesn’t approve of.

He tweeted: ‘Indi did WHAT?!’

And he later added in a backstage interview: ‘So, I’m essentially the father of the bride. So, the father of the bride is supposed to pay for this thing?! I’m not paying for this thing! I’m not paying for this wedding, are you kidding me?’

He insisted he should have been asked for permission before the proposal, although he admitted Indi being the one to get down on one knee meant Dexter couldn’t exactly do that.

‘No one can appreciate a Rebel Heart like I can,’ he said, referencing his own theme song. ‘I appreciate Rebel Hearts, I do, I do! But this circumstance, this situation, is not good!’

*WWE NXT airs Tuesday nights at 1am on BT Sport 1.
