Made In Chelsea star Oliver Proudlock has been slammed after referencing the Holocaust in an Instagram caption about his outfit.

The 32-year-old is holidaying in Corfu with wife Emma Louise Connolly, and has been sharing photos and videos from the Domes Miramare luxury resort.

One of the snaps he shared to his stories saw him pose in a fancy bathroom, wearing a white shirt, blue and white striped trousers and white Birkenstocks.

On his stories, Proudlock captioned the picture: ‘Boy in tha stripe pyjamas.’

This appeared to be a reference to the 2006 book by John Boyne, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, and the 2008 film adaptation.

The story describes the horror of Nazi extermination camps through the eyes of two eight-year-old boys, and the ‘striped pyjamas’ are in reference to the striped clothes that the Jewish prisoners in Auschwitz were forced to wear.

Proudlock’s caption attracted criticism online after it was shared on Twitter by journalist Joshua Zitser, who wrote: ‘Jesus, Proudlock.’

One response read: ‘The biggest yikes I’ve seen in a while’, while others claimed they had pointed out how offensive the caption was in his DMs, but the reality star had not replied.

Other tweets read: ‘Eton may want to update their history syllabus some time’ and ‘Imagine, just imagine, how much his parents spent on school though’, referencing Proudlock’s elite education at the boarding school, which charges up to £14,167 per term.

While the 24 hour limit on the post has now expired, it is not believed Proudlock deleted the caption.

He did, however, re-upload the outfit picture in a ‘photo dump’ from Greece, without the caption, where followers continued to call him out.

One comment read: ‘Writing ‘boy in the striped pyjamas’ on your story is so extremely hurtful to my community. You should feel ashamed of yourself.’

While Proudlock hasn’t responded to the controversy, he did reply to friends and fans asking about where he got his outfit from, commenting that the whole look was from Zara.

Proudlock shot to fame when he joined E4’s Made In Chelsea in its second series in 2011, and remained on it for eight series, before returning in series 12 for another six.

He has since founded a jewellery brand called Serge DeNimes and promotes a number of other brands on social media.

The star married girlfriend of eight years Emma in December, on their fourth attempt at a lockdown wedding.

The couple were forced to scramble to change their wedding date after new restrictions were introduced days before they were due to tie the knot, and they didn’t go on honeymoon straight away due to lockdown.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Proudlock’s rep for comment.
