Carol Kirkwood has admitted that the bike accident she was involved in last year still plays on her mind, and that she is still fearful of cycling.

The BBC weather presenter told fans in May 2020 she had been knocked off her bike near Slough, Berkshire.

Speaking about her ordeal now, she has detailed the extent of her injuries, which her boss compared to a shark attack.

She told the PA news agency: ‘My left knee was badly injured.

‘It was cut down to the kneecap and some of my nerves were hanging out.”

Carol was forced to take three weeks off her weather presenting duties as a result.

The star went on to explain just how much the incident has affected her confidence on the roads.

‘My confidence cycling on the road has gone to pot. I don’t do that now. I’m fearful now of cycling on the road,’ she confessed.

‘It was such a shock. I had dreams about it and I still do.

‘Sometimes, I still get upset talking about it. It’s not on my mind all the time, but I dream about being hit.’

Carol had taken to Twitter last year after her followers had queried her absence from the channel and used the opportunity to thank the emergency services staff who helped her.

Been off following an accident. Got knocked off my bike by a car and got injured. Biggest thanks ever to the Police (Chris and Faye), the Ambulance Crew (Miranda and Stewart) who tended to me and took me to Hospital. And especially Peter Foskett-Tharby at Wexham Park Hospital ♥️
