Fernando Alonso Reveals Felipe Massa “Cried Like a Baby” After Ferrari’s 2012 Loss

Fernando Alonso had a fierce rivalry with Sebastian Vettel. But, the most talked-about moment between the two titans of Formula One came during the 2012 season, where the Spaniard missed out on the championship by just three points.

However, Alonso was disappointed with this result, but it was his then Ferrari teammate who was in pain. The Spanish driver revealed that Felipe Massa was in tears, as Vettel claimed the title, while Alonso had to be satisfied with second place.

Fernando Alonso reveals the emotions of Massa after the 2012 finale

Alonso and Vettel have pushed each other to the limit with both men being world champions. One of the most iconic moments in their rivalry was the race in Brazil, where Alonso was not only defeated but had his title hopes stolen by Germany’s Vettel.

As quoted by Motorsporttotal.com, Alonso said, “We lost the World Cup and I wanted to hug Felipe. But Felipe cried extremely. I waited for him and I was shocked – not because I lost the World Cup, but because Felipe cried so extremely.”

We were both on the podium, I was second, he was third, actually, we should have been happy, but Felipe cried like a baby,” Alonso concluded.

How’s Fernando doing against Vettel this season?

Now in 2021, Alonso is at Alpine where he won two world titles when they were called Renault. While Vettel is at Aston Martin, but their rivalry still continues this year as well.

The 40-year-old had his best finish at the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, where he placed fourth and he finds himself in eleventh place in the driver’s standings. While Sebastian’s best finish earned him a podium at Azerbaijan where he placed second but is behind Alonso in the standings in twelfth place.
