GB News’ Simon McCoy told to stay silent after laughing at Harry and Meghan statement: ‘Do we need to talk about this?’

GB News presenter Simon McCoy was jokingly scolded by his colleague Kirsty Gallacher as they revisited his reaction to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s statement on Afghanistan.
Yesterday the former BBC journalist couldn’t control his laughter as the couple’s statement was read out on air, in which it was said they ‘broke their silence’ to say they were ‘speechless’.
Upon hearing that, Simon broke out into a giggle, which caused quite the side-eye from his co-host, Kirsty.
‘Sorry, only they would break their silence to tell us they are speechless,’ Simon continued, as the pair prepared to interview royal biographer Angela Levin.
Before addressing the moment on today’s instalment of Great British Breakfast, Simon and Kirsty were chatting about the latest front page reports on the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, in which it’s said they criticised the Royal Family for showing ‘little accountability’ following claims of racism made in the couple’s explosive Oprah Winfrey interview earlier this year.
However, it seemed Simon was keeping shtum today…

He paused before he said: ‘Do we need to talk about this? I get myself into trouble every time. After what I said yesterday about them…’
‘You are in big trouble today,’ Kirsty laughed.
Still, he persevered, adding: ‘The source “close to” Harry and Meghan…talking to someone who’s written their biography.’
Stopping himself from continuing, Simon was seemingly exasperated having to cover the story for a second day, with Kirsty realising her co-star may be about to put his foot in it.
‘Say no more?’ she mused, as Simon mimed zipping his lip. ‘I think you shouldn’t. Let’s move onto another subject…’
He did.
‘The Duke and Duchess of Montecito…’ Simon offered, dropping the royals’ colloquial moniker after they relocated from the UK to California last year.
Perhaps feeling Simon would be making waves with his fresh comments, Kirsty said: ‘Another day…another day for you in the press.’
Chuckling about the response his giggles at their statement yesterday made, Simon was imagining what social media users may be saying today: ‘What was I? Bitter and twisted yesterday? I wonder what I’ll be today?’
It comes after a new chapter of Finding Freedom claimed the Queen has done ‘little’ to address Meghan and Harry’s racism allegations, as a row between the Sussexes and the Royal Family threatened to reignite.
Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand say the couple disliked Her Majesty’s ‘recollections may vary’ response to their Oprah interview, believing she did not take ‘full ownership’ of the issues raised.
Meghan had told Oprah a Royal Family member had a conversation about their unborn son Archie’s skin colour and ‘what that would mean or look like’.
She also revealed she was left feeling suicidal after joining ‘the firm’.
Buckingham Palace issued a statement 36 hours after it aired, saying the Queen was ‘saddened by the claims’ but that ‘some recollections may vary’.

Scobie and Durand now say the comment did not go down well, writing: ‘The Queen’s “recollections may vary” comment “did not go unnoticed” by the couple, who a close source said were “not surprised” that full ownership was not taken. “Months later and little accountability has been taken”, a pal of Meghan added. “How can you move forward with that?”’
There has not been any further update on the matter from the Palace since the initial statement.
