Kate Garraway has revealed that Susanna Reid is returning from her break to present Good Morning Britain on Friday so she can take her kids on a holiday.

The presenter expressed her appreciation for her co-star filling in at the eleventh hour so that she can go on a much-needed break with her family for the first time without her husband Derek Draper, who is still recovering from Covid.

‘She’s been really kind,’ Kate said of Susanna. ‘I had a very tight window where everyone could come and look after Derek, take the kids away. Obviously he’ll have nurses as well.’

‘We’re quite emotional, the three of us, going on holiday without him,’ she continued. ‘I wondered if that would be too strange to do…We need to do it, to have a little bit of time and to come back refreshed.’

‘Susanna has come off her holiday for one day only to present the show tomorrow to allow me to go on holiday,’ Kate added. ‘So thank you, Susanna.’

Earlier this week, Kate shared her hopes for Derek to join her at this year’s National Television Awards as she’s been nominated for her heartbreaking film Finding Derek.

The presenter is shortlisted in the new category of authored documentary for her poignant look at how the pandemic ravaged her family

The upcoming ceremony, hosted by Joel Dommett, will take place in London on September 9.

Discussing her nomination on Monday’s show, Kate said: ‘I was just thinking, wouldn’t it be wonderful if Derek was well enough to come?’

However, Kate has since admitted that she believes getting Derek to join her might be a little unrealistic.

‘I think the logistics would be quite tricky,’ she said. ‘Maybe if it was in January.’

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
