Nick Knowles will return to screens this evening in a bid to help families improve their homes in a big way.

The star, 58, is best known for helping to improve the lives of families whose home situations desperately need sorting on the BBC hit show, DIY SOS.

However, the presenter will be seen at the helm of a brand new show this evening on Channel 5 amid currently being unable to host his well-known show on the BBC due to an advertisement contract with cereal brand Shreddies.

Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout is the latest show helping Britons to declutter their homes and part ways with some of their belongings.

But what time is it on and what is it about?

What is Nick Knowles’ Big House Clearout about?

The show sees the DIY expert help families get rid of the clutter in their homes and in exchange, receive a home makeover.

A Channel 5 synposis reads: ‘We strip our families’ homes bare and reconstruct their entire house room by room. We help them part with precious memories, ditch a lifetime of junk, repurpose old items and make a bit of cash from unloved possessions.’

Speaking on BBC Breakfast this morning, Nick explained a bit more about how the decluttering process works.

Joining Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt on the sofas, he said: ‘We’re spending a lot more time in our homes as you explained, and I think that’s brought to people’s attention how much stuff they’ve actually gathered.

‘But also, we talk about people, there are lots of reasons why people’s houses gather clutter, lot of psychological and emotional reasons.

‘You attach memories to things, we’ve all got pictures of our kids on the fridge, but some people keep every picture that was ever made, you can get into a psychological loop.’

Tonight’s episode will see Nick visit a family of four in Marlow, Buckinghamshire who are in need of a drastic change.

Mum Vicky’s love of crafting, which came about after recovering from life-changing surgery, has taken hold of the family home.

Teenagers Jess and James are mortified to bring their friends over.

The family have also fallen out of love with their home, but will Nick manage to help them get rid of half their clutter in order to win the chance to transform their property for the better?
