Sha’Carri Richardson Thanks Fans in Emotional Message Ahead of Nike Prefontaine Classic 2021

The Tokyo Olympics 2020 has concluded as normal service resumes. However, before the start of the Olympics, US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson was in the news for a long time. The United States Anti-Doping Agency found her positive in a drug test which led to a ban from athletics. As a result, the sprinter could not take part in Tokyo Olympics 2020 which caused widespread criticism worldwide.

Why was she banned?

The American sprinter got banned for traces of marijuana found in her body. After winning the 100-meter race in the Oregon race trials, Richardson got disqualified after failing the drug test. Because Marijuana shows no signs of performance enhancement on a person’s body, the ban came as a surprise for many fans. The sprinter talked about her consumption of Marijuana for its medicinal purposes after she lost her mother.

But, the Doping Agency considered otherwise and did not lift the ban.

The maximum suspension for the use of marijuana is two years. However, with genuine reasons, the athlete can make a case to reduce it to a month. Despite the hardships faced by her, the sprinter makes her return in the upcoming Nike Prefontaine Classic competition.

Sha’Carri Richardson set to make her return

After her ban from Tokyo, the US sprinter is back to compete in the 100-meter competition. Richardson was one of the favorites at the Olympics and disqualification came as a disappointment. However, the Nike Prefontaine Classic will provide her an opportunity to showcase her talents.

The 100-meter will host a star-studded lineup to choose the best sprinter amongst. The Tokyo Olympics 2020 champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah will be back to compete in the event while Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce will also compete. The sprinter also posted a Twitter post where a fan shows her support to Richardson.

Richardson, in the meantime, posted a Twitter post talking about negativity which followed her wherever she goes. Use of Marijuana caused many people to judge her but her reasons to use it have been well documented. It was an emotional moment for her as a fan stood-up for Richardson.

Despite all the troubles she has been through in the past, the sprinter hopes to make a comeback and win the event in the USA. Time will tell whether the surrounding hype is justified.
