Sting and Darby Allin Pick Up Huge Win to Kick Off AEW Dynamite

After a promising AEW Rampage debut last week, fans looked at AEW Dynamite with more hope this week (8/18). Thankfully, the opening match of Darby Allin and Sting did not disappoint those fans.

Ahead of the match, Jon Moxley and Eddie Kingston were attacked by Daniel Garcia and 2.0 (Matt Lee and Jeff Parker) as a warning to Darby Allin and Sting. Allin came out and attacked Garcia and 2.0 with his iconic skateboard.

Sting followed suit and hit a Sting Splash. Allin and Sting both took the fight out of the ring as the Hall of Famer fought Parker through the crowd, and Allin and Lee went out. Since there were disqualifications, the opponents ganged up on Derby.

The AEW crowd chanted “Let’s go Sting!” and “You still got it!” as everyone made their way back to the ring. Eddie Kingston showed up and beat down Garcia.

Allin and Sting set a table into the ring and Sting was dropped instead. When Allin was sent out on the ramp again, 2.0 brought out his skateboard and then double suplexed Allin on it.

Inside the ring, Sting fought off both the opponents. They held the veteran down and ended up double powerbombing him through the table inside the ring.

Shockingly, Sting got right back up, as if nothing happened. Allin was now back in the ring and attacked both men with a double dropkick. Sting quickly hit a double scorpion death drop following Darby.

To end the match, Sting then locked in a double scorpion deathlock, and both guys tapped out promptly. This match and win on AEW marked the first time in 20 years that The Icon has stepped foot and won inside a TNT ring. His last match was on the final WCW Nitro on March 26, 2001, and Sting defeated Ric Flair.
