WATCH: Grigor Dimitrov Seals a Marathon Rally in Roger Federer Style Against Daniil Medvedev in Cincinnati

It’s time for the pre-quarters of the Cincinnati Masters 2021 and fans are witnessing an epic match right now. After winning the National Bank Open 2021, World No.2 Daniil Medvedev is facing Grigor Dimitrov. Even though he won the first set, anything can happen in the match.

Daniil Medvedev played the first set really well. As a result, he won it 6-3 quite comfortably. However, there was an incident where Grigor Dimitrov just stunned the Russian player.

In the fifth game, Dimitrov had taken the advantage and was one step away from breaking Medvedev. However, the Russian was not ready to give up. Both the players played some really creative shots in a 32-shot long rally that included a couple of fine slices, powerful forehands, and some great backhands as well.

However, it was Dimitrov who won the point and stole the show with a lovely single-hand backhand. It was like a typical Roger Federer backhand which he hits at the baseline of his opponent after applying tremendous power into it. Medvedev had absolutely no chance of returning that backhand and thus, lost the game.

Daniil Medvedev in the 2021 tennis season

Medvedev has played really well in the 2021 season so far. He ended up as the runner-up of the Australian Open 2021 but then went on to win the Open 13 title.

Even though the Russian once again struggled to play well on clay, he improved his performance on the surface and managed to reach the quarters of the French Open 2021. The grass-court season didn’t turn out to be a great one for Medvedev as he failed to win any title. However, he regained his form and recently won the Canadian Open 2021 title.

Apart from winning titles, Medvedev achieved his career high ranking of World No.2 in 2021. He is one of the favourites to win the Cincinnati Masters 2021 title and fans have huge expectations from him. Will he be able to succeed at the US Open 2021?
