Watch Michael Owen go crazy celebrating £98,000 winner with friends… before joking no one in England side liked him
THIS is the fantastic moment Michael Owen went absolutely crazy celebrating a £98,000 winner with friends at York.
The former England hero couldn’t contain his joy as Ever Given surged past the post first on day two of the prestigious Ebor festival.
Owen went crazy with mates celebrating the £98,000 winner at York
The former England hero has been a sensation since going into racing
Owen, a racing fanatic, made a point of how good it was to bask in the glory with pals.
Asked by SunSport columnist Matt Chapman if he didn’t have any mates when he was in the England side, Owen joked with a smile on his face: “Not really, no!
“Very selfish. To be a striker you’ve got to be selfish, Matt!”
Owen, 41, was grinning from ear to ear as he landed a share of another bumper payday after netting £36,000 on the first day.
The former Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid star has enjoyed a remarkable second career in racing since hanging up his boots.
He owns the top class Manor House Stables where red-hot trainer Tom Dascombe – who also went wild celebrating Ever Given’s win – is based.

That’s not to say it has been all plain sailing though – much like the infamous tanker the horse was named after.
Five Liverpool players own a horse called Mr McCann, who trains at Owen’s racing HQ.
The £65,000 star won a race at Haydock in July and gave Owen ‘the most embarrassing moment’ of his life.
But there was nothing but ecstasy at York as Owen, who formed part of the Dandy Boys syndicate, proved himself a shrewdy with nags.
He said: “There are four of us in it, four horses and we have 25 per cent each.
“We’ve had a pretty good year, this fella (Ever Given) has been the standout.”
Asked how the buzz of that winner compared to an England goal, Owen smirked: “It’s good – especially when you’ve got a load of mates.
“I’ve had horses all my life but when you’re sharing it with mates, a few good lads, it’s particularly special.
“You never get bored of a big race winner.”
