Budgie smugglers are back in fashion as Gen Z go mad for Speedos
GEN Z are casting off their boxy Bermuda shorts for tight budgie smuggler-style briefs this summer, according to research.
The style is the preferred choice for youngsters, who opt for something more eye-popping than modest knee-length beachwear.

Despite the tight Speedo-style swimmers usually only seen as an option for Olympic divers like Tom Daley or a 1980s throwback look, a third (34 per cent) of men aged 18-30 proudly ‘smuggle the budgie’, more than any other age group.
Meanwhile, only five per cent of British men aged 41-50 typically wear them.
Gen Z men also admire Olympic diver Tom Daley’s handkerchief-sized swimmers (29 per cent) over James Bond star Daniel Craig in his iconic blue ‘Casino Royale’ swimming trunks when it comes celebrity beach style.
And more than half (54 per cent) of 18-30-year-old blokes believe that since Daley and Matty Lee won gold in the men’s synchronised diving at the Tokyo Olympics last month, it’s time for skimpy beachwear to make an official comeback.
The poll of 2000 men was commissioned by hotel booking site hoo, which has created a cheeky line of limited-edition swimmers.
Junx are lightweight neon swimming trunks which provide a one-stop storage solution for everything you need on the beach this summer.

Hoo has also released a tongue-in-cheek, eighties-style infomercial showcasing the statement swimwear, the only budgie smugglers to come with custom-made storage so you can go hands-free when frolicking by the seaside.
After a record-breaking first release that saw the latest in swimwear technology JUNX sell out in just 48 hours, they will be on sale once again for a limited time only to the public.
UK holidaymakers will have the chance to purchase their very own JUNX online for £14.99 while stocks last.
Duncan McKenna, global marketing director at hoo, said: “We know people are continuing to find ways to make the best out of their holiday trips this summer.
“By launching JUNX, we hope to alleviate some of the stresses that tourists often face during their beach or poolside trips.
“With the majority of families planning a staycation this year, JUNX are guaranteed to brighten up the trip, regardless of the unpredictable UK weather.”
