Dan Walker confirms break from BBC Breakfast to ‘spend time with family’ as Louise Minchin assures fans

Dan Walker has confirmed he’ll be taking a break from BBC Breakfast ahead of his upcoming appearance on Strictly Come Dancing 2021. 

The 44-year-old has been sorely missed since BBC Breakfast returned following the Tokyo Olympics coverage where he was a triumph with co-host Sam Quek. 

Instead, Louise Minchin – who confirmed her BBC Breakfast departure after 20 years – has been joined by a rotation of different presenters.

As Louise shared a selfie from the BBC Breakfast studio, fans were gagging to know where Dan has been hiding. 

One of her followers asked: ‘When is the lovely @mrdanwalker joining you again Louise? Or is he having time off to train for @bbcstrictly?’

Louise assured: ‘He will be back soon, don’t worry.’

Dan swiftly jumped in also to confirm he’s just ‘spending time with the family’ but will ‘be back soon’. 

Understandably, the presenter will be soaking up all the time he can get with his wife Sarah and their three children before he takes to the ballroom for Strictly 2021. 

He’s hotly tipped to lift the coveted glitterball trophy, going up against the likes of Olympic champion Adam Peaty, presenter AJ Odudu, Peep Show star Stephen Webb, and McFly frontman Tom Fletcher. 

However, he’s not so convinced.

‘I’m not making any room on our shelf for the glitterball,’ he joked, breaking the news to floored co-stars Louise and Jon Kay. 

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One. Strictly Come Dancing returns this autumn.
