Last night’s Love Island saw Jake Cornish blindsided as Liberty Poole broke up with him in emotional scenes.

However, fans are set to be enraged as Jake admits his affection ‘died’ for his girlfriend before the break-up.

In tonight’s episode, the pair go on their ‘make or break’ final date on a luxurious yacht – just as they’d previously dreamt – after Jake says it would be ‘silly not to’.

The date starts off perfectly amicably, with Jake saying: ‘Here we are then. Our perfect date we’ve always spoken about. You look beautiful today.’

Liberty says: ‘Thank you. You look nice as well. How do you feel?’, with Jake saying: ‘It’s a tricky one really. I didn’t think I’d be coming on a date with the one I thought was the one.’

Liberty – who spent the night on the day beds with Kaz – explains her reasons for the split: ‘I don’t know what happened along the way but the spark just faded.’

Jake, who had initially seemed surprised at any suggestion that something was wrong in the relationship, then says: ‘On my behalf I felt the affection died out. That’s a big thing for me and that’s nothing against you as a person.’

We’re sure that comment will go down well on Love Island Twitter…

Liberty tells her ex that she had fallen in love with him, saying: ‘At one point I thought I had found the one but once the honeymoon passes you start seeing the cracks.’

After disembarking the boat, the pair go back to the villa, where they ask their fellow islanders to gather around the fire pit for some news.

While viewers theorised that they would be getting back together, Liberty and Jake have reportedly quit the villa with just days to go until the final.

An insider told the MailOnline: ‘It was a really tough decision for the couple to make, but it felt like the right thing to do.

‘They’d given it their all on camera and wanted to let their friends in other couples have a chance at winning.’

Also on tonight’s show, Millie Court and Liam Reardon go on their final date, with Welsh lad Liam telling Essex girl Millie that he will move closer to her to make their relationship work.

Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2.
