Megan Barton-Hanson says OnlyFans’ pledge to ban nudity and sexual content ‘reinforces the toxic notion that sex work is something to be ashamed of’.

The former Love Island star, 27, said it made ‘no sense’ to wipe sexually explicit content from the site from October 1 after bosses announced their decision yesterday.

The reality star, who rose to fame on the ITV show in 2018, reportedly earns £800,000 a month from the members only site and last year said the cash helped her buy her dream home and furnish it.

She wrote on Instagram on Friday: ‘To say I’m disappointed with @onlyfans choice to stop explicit content is an understatement.

‘The greed is unreal, using sex workers to make millions and to now cut off the majority of your users, further perpetuating the narrative that sex work is shameful.

‘I hope all explicit creators aren’t panicking too much please be safe! There are alternative platforms to work from “adult-work” and @vuepay safely and securely. Please don’t compromise your safety and do things you’re not comfortable with.

‘I can’t believe how they have done this with no apology and proper explanation blaming it on “banking partners” greedy and irresponsible!’

Last year, Megan gushed to The Sun about how much she was making from OnlyFans, telling the publication: ‘Doing the site has definitely helped me buy my dream house and it’s given me all the money for new furniture.’

She added: ‘I’m so proud of my OnlyFans. I knew how much girls I used to work with in the sex industry were making on webcamming, so I thought, “Why not?” I can’t believe how well I’ve done, I’m smashing it.

‘I’m sure men would be happy if I just stood in front of a mirror in my underwear, but for me it’s about getting glammed up.’

OnlyFans bosses said in a statement on Thursday: ‘OnlyFans will prohibit the posting of any sexually explicit conduct.

‘In order to ensure the long-term sustainability of the platform, and to continue to host an inclusive community of creators and fans, we must evolve our content guidelines.’
