Michelle Gomez is set to return as Missy for a third Doctor Who spin-off series.

The actress, who played the female incarnation of The Master during Peter Capaldi’s time on the BBC show, will reprise her role for a new three-part audio drama from Big Finish, titled Missy and the Monk.

The series will see Missy and the Meddling Monk (Rufus Hound) forced into an unlikely partnership as they have to learn to work together to fly the Tardis.

And by the end of the show, the two will cross paths with a Meddling Nun, who is played by Gemma Whelan.

The series, which consists of the episodes Body and Soulless, War Seed and Two Monks, One Mistress, is now available to pre-order ahead of its release in September.

Michelle previously revealed that she would be open to returning to the role of Missy for the main Doctor Who series, and she insisted that ‘it’s never a closed chapter’ when it comes to the show.

The 54-year-old told Digital Spy last December: ‘It’s never a closed chapter as far as Doctor Who is concerned.

‘I would love to, at some point, pop back up again. That’s a firm, “Yes, I am available”.

‘Well, I’m not actually. Not right now. But I will be. I will be!’

It was recently announced that both Jodie Whittaker, who plays the 13th Doctor, and showrunner Chris Chibnall are both stepping down from the sci-fi in 2022, after five years of helming the show together.

The 13th Doctor’s story will conclude in a trio of specials, culminating in a blockbuster episode which will form part of the BBC’s Centenary celebrations.

It means Jodie’s final outing as the Doctor will be a feature-length adventure before the Time Lord regenerates once again and fans are introduced to the 14th Doctor.

And before all that kicks off, the upcoming 13th series of the show is expected to premiere later this year, and will feature six episodes, all forming one story – a huge departure from its usual episodic format.

More: Doctor Who

Alongside Jodie and Mandip Gill (Yaz), John Bishop also joins the cast for the upcoming episodes as Dan, with Jacob Anderson set to star as recurring character Vinder.

Doctor Who returns to BBC One this autumn.
