‘Part of History’: Caron Butler Shares an Untold Kobe Bryant Game Winner Story

Hard work is one of the most important things needed to be a NBA player. And, Kobe Bryant was the epitome of working hard. Likewise, the ‘Mamba’ went on to become one of the greatest basketball players of all time.

Moreover, Kobe also had the clutch factor. Similar to Michael Jordan, when it comes to the last shot, it had to be Bryant. Hence, he hit many game winners through his career. And, there have been crazy stories about it as well.

Recently, one of Bryant’s former teammates shared an insane story. His story proves how the ‘Mamba’ was a cold blooded assassin on the court. In addition, it shows that he was not afraid of the big moment, rather he embraced it. Here is how Kobe made his own play and hit the game winner once again.

Caron Butler shares insane Kobe Bryant story

The Lakers acquired Butler in the trade involving Shaq being sent to Miami. He played with Kobe for just a single season. However, he sparked a friendship with the ‘Mamba’. Despite the fact that Bryant was hard on his teammates, him and Butler seemed to find a common ground.

While on the Long Shot podcast, Butler revealed the story of Bryant’s game winner against Charlotte in 2005. He explains how Kobe Bryant demanded the ball during crunch time and hit the final shot to secure the win.

Butler explained: “We was in Charlotte, and we were in the huddle. The game was tied, there is only like four seconds, three seconds on the shot clock. Rudy T is like drawing up all type of s**t on the board. Kobe said ‘f**k that just give me the ball right here’. And, he was like ‘whoever wanna take the ball will be part of history’. Lamar is like I want to be part of history. Kobe hit the shot and it’s game.”

The story just goes to show how confident Kobe was in his abilities. He had worked hard for moments like these and he came in prepared for them. In the 2004-05 season, Bryant averaged 27 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Butler was later sent to Washington where he would have his best years.
