USMNT Doubts Christian Pulisic Involvement in Crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

Despite the re-entry of crowds inside the stadiums in England, many players have tested positive for Covid-19 in recent weeks. Arsenal footballers Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette missed the team’s opening match loss to Brentford in the English Premier League. Likewise, Chelsea reported Christian Pulisic will miss their Sunday blockbuster showdown against Arsenal as Thomas Tuchel confirmed his Covid-positive report.

This also means he may miss the USMNT’s World Cup qualifiers in September.

Christian Pulisic set to sit out against Arsenal

Christian Pulisic struggled to get into Tuchel’s team last season because of injuries, and a slump in form. Things have not gone smoothly for him since he got injured in the FA cup final against Arsenal, two years ago. But, the American winger scored in Chelsea’s opening game against Crystal Palace in their season opener.

Despite having been in Chelsea for some time now, he has never reached the levels that he showed in Borussia Dortmund. However, this season could be vital for the player and the club. After becoming the European Champions, Chelsea have made some key signings and strengthened their roster.

One such player who will be in contention against Arsenal is Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku.

Lukaku to unleash himself

The good news for Chelsea fans is the Belgian is back after a 7-year-gap.

After plying his trade in several clubs in England including Manchester United, Romelu Lukaku has returned to Stamford Bridge. Despite not being able to show his true potential in England, Antonio Conte made him a superstar at Inter Milan as they ended Juventus’ dominance in Serie A. Now, the striker is back to where he belongs and looks hungry to prove a point.

After he completed a signing for 97.5 million pounds, Lukaku is expected to feature against Arsenal on Sunday,  replacing Pulisic in the line-up. The American winger is known for his quick feet and clean technique while the Belgian is a brilliant finisher and an imposing physical presence. Arsenal could be the perfect opponent for Romelu as Arteta’s side struggle against physicality.

After leaving England, he polished his finishing abilities to become one of the best strikers in the world. He looks to be the ultimate piece in Tuchel’s puzzle. As Pulisic misses the game, Lukaku will look to set the ground ablaze in North London.
