Dan Walker’s chaotic train journey home involves Strictly fans and a stag do

BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker took it all in his stride when he got caught up in train delays on Friday, enjoying the chance to chat all things Strictly Come Dancing with his fellow travellers.

The presenter, who will be suiting up in sparkles to take to the dancefloor for this year’s series of Strictly, confirmed this week that he’s currently taking a break from presenting the flagship morning show.

After his co-host Louise Minchin was asked by a fan when Dan would be back in the studio with her, the BBC Breakfast veteran assured her follower that he would be back ‘soon’.

Dan himself then jumped in to echo Louise’s words and explain he was ‘spending time with the family’ ahead of the ballroom competition.

However, on Friday he was just like every other London commuter trying to get home from the capital and finding his usual journey somewhat thwarted.

Taking to Instagram, Dan shared his status alongside some photos from what looked like quite the unexpected journey home.

The 44-year-old commented: ‘Bad news: big delay on train home from London.

‘Good news: we joined with the broken-down train in front & I got to meet the fantastic Foyle family.’

The first picture showed Dan leaning in for a photo with the Foyles, with whom he was sharing a table, as he and the three family members presumably smiled for (all were masked up) the snap.

Dan continued: ‘They are massive #Strictly fans so we had a lovely chat🕺🏼😂🕺🏼’

Revealing that it was one of his new friends’ birthdays, Dan also shared birthday wishes on his post.

‘Happy Birthday Jan (second left) & hello to the stag do which strolled past 😳’, he wrote.

The presenter’s second snap then revealed said stag do party, with two men dressed up for a Bavarian-themed evening walking past, and one completing his barmaid outfit with a blonde plaited wig.

Although Strictly is yet to kick off formally, behind-the-scenes prep is well and truly underway with some of the celebrities sharing photos of themselves at costume fittings.

Alongside Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty trying on a sparkly dress, Dan also had fun.

The BBC Breakfast presenter posted a picture of himself on both Instagram and Twitter with a tight black bodysuit as he smiled for the camera.

‘How have I got to this point in my life without knowing that there are shirts which attach to shorts?’, he asked.

‘What are they even called? *2nd photo includes trousers. Day 1 of Strictly was a sparkly delight.’

BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One. Strictly Come Dancing returns this September.
