Jesy Nelson has called out X Factor bosses for not supporting her during the competition.
The 30-year-old won the competition in 2011 alongside her former Little Mix bandmates, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thirlwall and Perrie Edwards.
But, recalling her experiences on the ITV series in a new interview, the Shout Out To My Ex star hit out at those behind the scenes over the level of vile trolling she received at the time.
In a new chat with the Guardian, she said: ‘The first thing I read about myself was, “Is it me or does that girl look disabled?” The next one said she really looks like a rat. And the next one was, “God her face looks deformed”. When you’ve never had any issues with your face and then realise people are saying these things about you…
‘You think if everybody is saying it, it must be true.
‘When I was struggling, I didn’t feel there was anyone I could talk to. We were like babies: Perrie was 17, I was 20. I’m hoping that programmes like this are now taking more responsibility. It’s so important because nobody prepares you for what you’re about to go through.’

When asked what she believes bosses of reality shows and competitions should implement, she added: ‘I think they should have a therapist there and – whether you like it or not – while you’re in that process you have to go and see them.’
Jesy, who is set to release her debut single soon, opened up about her experiences with rude comments in a BBC documentary, Odd One Out.
The special episode was praised by many, and went on to win a National Television Award.
However, the Hair musician confessed that there was an unaired scene which showed her confronting a troll in person over their vicious words.

‘We did do a scene, that had to get cut out, with someone who used to troll me,’ she spilled to ODEntertainment. ‘In the end, they didn’t agree for it to be in the documentary and that was kind of, well, a weird thing to do really.
‘It was weird hearing why they did it and their reasons for it – which is another reason why I wanted to make this documentary.
‘His reasons were just like, “I just wanted to make people laugh.”‘
‘People have no idea the mental effect they’re having on people. One comment can completely change somebody’s life and their mindset.’
