NBA Legend Wilt Chamberlain Once Explained How Media Is Biased Towards Michael Jordan

Six-time NBA champion Michael Jordan is a basketball legend, to the say the least. Given his influence on the sport, Jordan was very popular in the media as a result of this. However, NBA legend Wilt Chamberlain felt that the media were biased towards Jordan. In an old interview, Wilt also said that the media won’t talk about his achievements and records.

Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan both played in a different era. While Jordan was definitely the best of his time, Wilt Chamberlain was a different animal altogether. In fact, he is still the only NBA player to score 100 points in a single NBA game.

Wilt was not just about scoring, he was a top all round player. In the last two seasons of his NBA career, he was named in the All-Defensive First Team.

Wilt Chamberlain feels the media is biased towards Michael Jordan

An old video of Wilt Chamberlain has recently resurfaced on YouTube. In the video, he is seen talking about the media bias towards Michael Jordan.

“I never hear Johnny Red Kerr, who does Chicago and I listen to him over to me. Michael will do something fantastic… ‘Oh Michael just had 49 points and 51 points’,” Wilt said.

“But he’ll never say ‘yeah but Wilt Chamberlain had 135 of those.”

Johnny Kerr was also a former basketball player in the NBA. After his playing and coaching career, Johnny ‘Red’ Kerr spent more than 30 years as a Chicago Bulls commentator.

Wilt Chamberlain won two NBA championships in his 14-year-old playing career. While he won his first with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1967, he won his second with Los Angeles Lakers in 1972, a year before his retirement.

For his role in winning the championship with the Lakers, Wilt was named the Finals MVP in 1972. Wilt also won four NBA MVPs, with three of those coming in consecutive years (1966-68). Three different NBA teams have retired his number 13 jersey: Philadelphia 76ers, Golden State Warriors, and Los Angeles Lakers.
