Venus Williams to Make a Comeback Ahead of US Open 2021

Venus Williams will be participating at the Chicago Women’s Open starting on the 22nd of August. After a long break from tennis, Williams will be back on court in the windy city. She last played at the Wimbledon Championships back in July.

Venus has not participated in any tournaments in the past one and a half month. Her reason for withdrawing from the Cincinnati Open still remains unknown. However, she withdrew from the National Bank Open in Montreal due to a viral illness.

Venus Williams is back after a short hiatus

The former World No.1 lost in the second round of the Wimbledon Championships back in June. Ons Jabeur beat her in straight sets and completed a bagel over her in the second set. With a score line of 7-5, 6-0, Jabeur beat Williams in what was her last match.

Venus will however mark her comeback at the WTA Chicago Open. The tournament is back in Chicago for the first time in 20 years and serves as a base for preparation for Williams.

Williams has received the wildcard entry at the US Open and the Chicago campaign will be perfect for her preparation. She will be playing her 23rd US Open later this month ever since her debut at the age of 14.

Williams’ 2021 so far

Venus Williams has been playing for more than 20 years. She started her career at the age of 14 and is still continuing with great determination. However, her form has dipped with age and she isn’t the player she used to be anymore.

She has played eight tournaments this year and has not found any major success at any of them. Her singles performances have been poor so far this season with a streak of first and second round defeats. Besides her singles performance, her doubles campaign has not taken off either. She had to withdraw from the Wimbledon Championships as her mixed doubles partner Nick Kyrgios suffered an injury.
