BREAKING: Alexander Albon Takes His First Race Win!

Red Bull reserve driver Alex Albon is finally a race winner. The F1 protege won in the #23 AF Corse Ferrari machine. In the second round of the series, Albon crossed the line ahead of rest at the German Touring championship.

With two jobs and one common goal, Albon has finally earned his place as a race winner – representing the Red Bull colors.

The AlphaTauri liveried car made its return to the series after two years, driven by Alex Albon and New Zealand driver Nick Cassidy.

DTM prospects for Alex Albon

After spending the majority of his career karting and in single-seater racing, Albon faced something new. He faced the challenge of getting up to speed with the tin tops of the DTM machines.

Heading into the new field, Albon said, “DTM is a great series with highly talented drivers in the field and exciting racing, I’ve only driven a ‘tin top’ once… and they’re really different to single-seaters. There’s a lot less downforce and the tires are very different, so it requires a different kind of driving style.”

Nonetheless, Albon clearly got used to the machinery, having a good day in Nurburgring. Albon started the race on pole position, competing against the grid and the wet weather. The track conditions were deteriorating towards the end of the qualifying session, yet Albon managed to improve his time, starting at the top of the grid.

Additionally, Albon wanted to broaden his expertise“It will take a bit of time to get used to, but I’m looking forward to a new racing challenge when I’m available outside of my existing F1 commitments.”

As the 8 round series is underway, Albon has a lot more races to win. Also looking at a possible career at IndyCar, Albon has made his name known in multiple series- a smart thing to do if F1 doesn’t have a place for him. Being a reserve driver, Albon has done a great job for the Milton-Keynes team. He continues to do so in other areas of motorsport.
