“John Terry Kicked Me”: Romelu Lukaku Recalls the Brash Nature of His First Chelsea Stint

Chelsea pulled off one of the biggest moves of the transfer window as they added Romelu Lukaku to their blistering young attack. With a certified goalscorer like Lukaku in their lineup now, Chelsea have a fearful attack.

After impressing with Merseyside club Everton, the Belgian striker got his big move as he joined Manchester United. While he produced the goods with the ‘Red Devils’ an underwhelming second season with the club meant that the Lukaku needed a change of scenery.

Italian giants Inter Milan came calling. The Belgian truly brought out the best of his game in Italy. Playing under a coach like Antonio Conte, the 28-year-old developed into an all-round striker. But with the Italian club facing financial crisis, Lukaku was on his way out and has returned to his ex-club Chelsea.

Romelu Lukaku opens up about his first stint with Chelsea

While Lukaku is about to start his second stint with the Chelsea, his first stay with the Londoners was pretty mixed. Arriving into the club from Belgian club Anderlecht, the striker joined one of the best Chelsea lineups ever featuring the likes of John Terry, Petr Cech and Didier Drogba.

While he joined a star-studded team, Lukaku certainly did not have the best of times with the club. In a recent interview, ‘the Blues” new signing spoke about how tough his first stint with the club was. “The training session, that’s where I really saw what it was about, the challenges, it was like a war-zone everyday.”

He added, “I remember JT kicked me, I dribbled him on the side, my first 1v1, he got me straight away. The second time when I went, boom.. took the ball, me and everything. I liked it as I knew it was the highest level.”

While Lukaku trained alongside some of the best players of the time, the Belgian couldn’t showcase his talents with Chelsea. Despite him impressing in a loan spell with West Bromwich Albion, chances in the first team were sparse as he made only 15 appearances with the club.

The 28-year-old will certainly be eager to prove his haters wrong this time. Coming off of a season where he scored 41 goals in all competitions, the Belgian is one of the favorites to win the European golden boot. Can Lukaku flourish in his second spell with the Londoners?
