Olivia Buckland appeared in the 2016 series of Love Island alongside now husband Alex Bowen but despite finding love, the star has admitted she struggled with body issues after appearing on the hit ITV2 show.

Alex and Olivia tied the knot back in 2018 and the pair are currently renovating their Essex pad together.

The reality star is often praised by fans for her honest outlook on social media and spreading body positivity.

However, she’s now spoken out on just how hard she found the constant scrutiny from social media users.

Speaking to Jackie Adedeji on the new Boob Share with CoppaFeel!, Olivia revealed how bad some of the hate she received was.

She said: ‘Even when I come out on the night, some of the hate, the comments were just horrible.

‘I remember when I came out, I was tiny and I think I lost about a stone and a half of that because I was just stressed.

‘I remember seeing pictures taken of when I was working out, and at the time I saw them I was like, “oh God I look really horrible”. These people were calling me fat online from these pictures.’

She went on to add: ‘I was about eight stone, maybe seven and a half. I was tiny and I was getting cold and everything. And I looked at the pictures and I thought that I was [fat].’

Olivia isn’t the only Love Island star to be frank about the trolling she experienced online due to the show exposing her to the public domain.

Brett Staniland, who was booted off the island last week has been the subject of ‘relentless’ trolling .

His identical twin brother Scott – who has managed his social media while he was in the villa – told BBC News how difficult managing accounts proved to be.

‘I’m his identical twin so anything I see about appearance, or what he’s like, I take it so personally,’ Scott said.

‘It’s relentless as well, and it’s a really weird space online, this lack of consequence for saying something out in the open online when you’re at home with your piece of plastic in your hand.’

Alex and Olivia have been together for over five years and were runners-up in their season of Love Island.

The duo have amassed 735k followers on their home account @thebowenhome on Instagram.
