Sean Penn compares being unvaccinated to ‘pointing a gun in somebody’s face’

Sean Penn has doubled down on his pro-vaccination stance, as he described those who have refused the jab as ‘going around pointing a gun in somebody’s face’.

While promoting his new film Flag Day, the actor was interviewed by Michael Smerconish on CNN, who was keen to cover the 61-year-old’s outspoken stance.

As he questioned the Hollywood star, Sean discussed his film’s exclusive cinematic release and said he would ‘request that only vaccinated audiences have an opportunity to see this theatrically’.

Anticipating how that comment may go down in some circles, he continued: ‘Eventually it will stream and that’s a better time for the unvaccinated to see it, although I’ll probably offend them out of that choice.’

As they dived into the thorny issue of anti-vaxxers in the US, the Mystic River actor brought in the country’s Second Amendment, which states: ‘A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.’

He explained: ‘I have some areas of strong belief in the Second Amendment.

‘But I think that you need to recognize how, you know, with something like this, you can’t go around pointing a gun in somebody’s face, which is what it is when people are unvaccinated.’

The star also covered his recent decision to refuse to return to the set of his Starz TV series Gaslit until the full cast and crew were vaccinated, rather than just those who personally interact with the performers.

Revealing that he didn’t ‘want to feel complicit in something that was taking care of one group and not the other’, Sean returned to his initial argument.

‘I do believe that everyone should get vaccinated,’ he stated. ‘I believe it should be mandatory, like turning your headlights on in a car at night.’

The actor’s daughter Dylan, who also appears in Flag Day, recently revealed that she and her father, who directed the film too, had ‘a major standoff’ on set over one of his notes, which was all to do with if she should wear mascara.

Well, quite.
